 Who's a good boy? You're a good boy!

This dog looks happy. He is wagging his tail. But I wonder... Why do dogs
have a tail? What does the tail do?
這隻狗狗正在搖尾巴，牠看起來很開心。 但為什麼狗狗有尾巴呢？ 尾巴有什麼功能？

Recently, some scientists in Germany asked the same question. They wanted to
know what a dog's tail is for. They saw how other animals use their tails.
Lizards use their tails to jump. Cats use their tails to turn quickly.
德國科學家最近也在問這個問題。他們看到蜥蜴用尾巴來跳躍，貓用尾巴快速轉身。

In other words, many animals use their tails to help them move.
換句話說，很多動物用它們的尾巴來幫助它們移動。

After that, the scientists came up with an idea. The scientists thought dogs
may also use their tails this way.
科學家們認為狗狗也是這樣。

Next, they had to see if their idea was right. To do this, the scientists
studied many dogs to see how they move. Then they used what they learned to
make a computer model of a dog.
然後，他們研究了許多狗狗的移動方式，用那些資訊做出狗狗的電腦模擬。

They studied the computer model, and in the end they had an answer... Their
idea was wrong! Dogs' tails do not help dogs move.
結果科學家發現他們的假設錯了！狗尾巴不是用來協助牠們動作。

So why do dogs have tails? Maybe dogs use their tails to show their feelings.
可能是狗狗用來表達牠們的心情。

The scientists are still not sure, but now they are closer to finding out!
